Synopsis

León (Guillem Jiménez) and Olvido (Marta Lerralde) are twins bound by blood but tormented by an uneasy relationship marked by guilt, pressure, and the expectations of the community in which they live. León has Downs Syndrome but cannot adapt to life in a residential institution. Olvido takes him back to the family home but their co-habitation together proves anything but uncomplicated and impacts on her job and her relationship with her aimless boyfriend Ivan (Jaime Vázquez). Olvido resents León´s dependency; León demands Olvido´s undivided attention. Each makes demands that the other finds difficult to live with and as financial circumstances impinge on their relationship, an outsider enters their lives with unforeseen consequences. Shot with bold austerity and a keen eye for the environment in which the siblings´ encounters evolve, Xavier Bermúdez crafts a distinctive offbeat feature that balances perceptive dialogue with an edgy visual style. The astonishing quality of Marta Lerralde and Guillem Jiménez´s central performances expertly ground Bermúdez´s compelling, unsettling and unsentimental treatment of siblings negotiating loss, disability and the pains of a bond shaped by a distant past, an uneasy present and an uncertain future..
