Synopsis

Juan, César and Jofré journey to the Vatican, where a conclave is choosing the new Pope. Upon arrival, they learn that their father, Rodrigo Borgia, has just been elected Pope Alexander VI. He dreams of expanding the Vatican territories by any means possible, appointing his eldest son Juan as Head of the Army and marrying him off to a Spanish noble. However, César covets his brother Juan’s position as Head of the Army. A bitter rivalry commences. One morning after a party, Juan´s corpse appears in the river. The Pope´s pain is terrible: Juan was his favourite son. César is subsequently appointed Captain and leads the conquest of the territories adjacent to the Vatican. It seems that the dynastic dreams of Pope Alexander VI are about to be fulfilled. But the Borgias have made many new enemies. Rivalries become plots that will put in grave danger the promising new dynasty being established in Rome..
